A Message from Jason Sentes, CEO, on COVID-19

Due to the recent situation with COVID-19, I would like to assure you that 1st Choice Savings and Credit Union is taking every precaution to safeguard the health and safety of our staff and members. We are actively monitoring and assessing the evolving health risks and are closely following guidelines and updates from public health organizations, government agencies and global health authorities.

Branch Closures and Reduced Hours

Unfortunately, due to the cancellation of schools and staff members self-isolating, we are experiencing staff shortages.  

  • Our Westgate Branch will now close at 5:00pm on Thursdays instead of 7:00pm.

At this time, all other branches will continue normal operations and hours. For more information, please see our Branch Closure page.

Payment Deferral Programs

To help our members during this time, we are also offering our members various payment deferral options. Please see our Payment Deferral Program page for more information.

1st Choice Quick Loan

We're offering the 1st Choice ‘Quick Loan’ to help those 
have been affected by COVID 19 and need quick access to cash. 

CRA Direct Deposit

You are now able to receive your Canada Revenue Agency payments by direct deposit into your 1st Choice account! Please see our FAQ page for more information on getting started. 

  • Note: Setting up CRA Direct Deposit does not register you for the Canadian Emergency Response Benefit. You will need to apply on the CRA website.  

How is Your Money Protected?

The Credit Union Deposit Guarantee Corporation (CUDGC) guarantees the repayment of all deposits with Alberta Credit Unions, including accrued interest to the date of payout.  This means that all your deposits with us are 100% guaranteed back to you, and your money is protected.

CUDGC is a provincial corporation established under the Alberta Credit Union Act.

Protecting Our Staff and Members

The health and safety of our staff and members is the utmost priority. Here are some of the precautions we are taking:

  • Increasing the frequency of in branch sanitation practices during business hours, including wiping down teller pods and frequently touched surfaces.
  • Increasing our janitorial and sanitation practices in addition to normal routines.
  • Working with staff to ensure that they have up to date information on preventative methods and encouraging them to stay home if they feel ill.

You also play a role in helping us keep our operations healthy and safe.  Here’s what you can do to help reduce the potential spread of COVID-19:

  • If you’re not feeling well or if you have recently travelled internationally, please avoid coming into a branch.
  • Make use of our online banking services, mobile banking app, or contact us by phone at (403) 320-4600.
  • Practice frequent handwashing and other hygienic practices.

Be Vigilant Against Fraud

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve, watch out for the associated scams. Criminals have been using the COVID-19 uncertainty to launch phishing and other attacks. Check out our COVID-19 Fraud Page to learn about how to protect yourself.

Remember:

  • Do not respond to unsolicited e-mails, text messages, websites, or pop-up windows that request personal or confidential information and do not open attachments or click hyperlinks are sent by someone you don’t know or recognize.
  • 1st Choice Savings will never send you unsolicited emails asking for confidential information, such as your password, PIN, Access Code, credit card and account numbers.
